Chronicles the history of New York City from 1946 to 2003 as it emerged as a powerful city from the Great Depression and World War II. Traces the origins and development of the twin towers of the World Trade Center. Focuses on the controversies and challenges that surrounded their construction, and the complex relationship between the project, the city, and the nation to the global economic dynamic that gave the World Trade Center its name and its rationale. The film also recounts the terrible events of September 11, 2001, exploring the meaning of the attacks, and the attempt to rebuild and recover from them.
