Sayyid ʻAbd al-Jawwād was a spice dealer with a big family. He was very conservative with his family but he was involved in relations with some belly-dancers. He tried to persuade his son Fahmī to stop his political activites aganist the Occupation, but Fahmī refused and was killed in a demonstration.
