The background for this project comes fro awareness of the vast economic impact of horse racing in developed countries in North and South America, Europe and Australia. The general purpose of this paper was to research the lesser-known horse racing markets of Asia and the Middle East. You could ask any follower of international horse racing which markets they have heard of and they will likely m the general respond with Dubai, Hong Kong or Japan. Thoroughbred horse racing could arguably be named the only sport to exist on a "Grade One" level on all the major continents of the world but it extends much further than that. The relationship of horses and humans goes back thousands of years and this paper will strive to gather as much information as possible about the existence of horse racing in small, developing and sometimes volatile countries. The scope of this project is to investigate the differences among the uniform sport of horse racing. First there will be an introduction of the horse and the Thoroughbred breed, as well as the beginning days of organized horse racing which dates back hundreds of years to the establishment of the developed markets in North America and Europe. | ||
