In Jose Paulo dos Santos' architecture, one encounters a curious combination of banal accessibility with the unexpected. Some of his most important commissions to date have been devoted to converting, refurbishing, and adding to existing stock. In the Portugal foothills of Arraiolos, dos Santos created a wing and other structures to breathe new life into Pousada da Assuncao. In Luso, he resurrected a tourist office from an abandoned primary school. And in Lisbon, he offered a gateway between two worlds with a new morgue and chapel at Curry Cabral Hospital. Jose Paulo dos Santos is based in Porto, Portugal.
